April 28, 2011 - 11:00am - Jennifer Tardy

ImageAs you are reading this letter, I am bed ridden for a little while, Girlfriends. Can you believe it? In one split second, I go from preparing for a lovely weekend alone while my fiancé travels to his hometown, to now being bed ridden, while my honey helps me with my every request. You know I've got to fill you in, but where in this story should I begin?

Even Oprah Winfrey Has Cried...

Image“Everybody’s searching for a hero. As I imagine the sound of Whitney Houston singing the lyrics to Greatest Love of All, I can’t help but to ponder the reality that there is (truly) an urgent need by every day people for heroes in our world today. And everybody’s searching for a hero.
And then I hear Whitney harmoniously sing, “People need someone to look up to.”
I begin to think that in a time long before this mass quest for heroes, leaders used to suffice. It was enough to have someone to look up to; a role model, per se.

ImageBreak-ups are one of life’s toughest challenges. Disconnecting yourself from someone you’ve loved, the plans you’ve made, and the life you’ve created doesn’t get any easier, even when you get older. But something that I’m noticing is that there’s a trend occurring. The more I’ve been able to talk one on one with women who are dealing in heartache and confusion. Many of them are holding on to something very similar—an image of their now ex.
Now, what do I mean by an image?
When you walk away from a relationship, I’m sure you agree that no one can take that deep memory of your former love away from you, right?

Words I Live By

“I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

To do what I’m supposed to do…

And learn what I’m supposed to learn,

In order to be who I’m supposed to be…

And in the end…what God has for me,

Will be precisely what it’s supposed to be…

Just for me.”
