Letters to My Girlfriends: Day 360: What To Do In The Meantime...

The hardest period of time to endure is "...in the meantime." This is the time between who you are/what you have today and something you are waiting to be, do, have, or know in the future. What do you do in the meantime after you've broken up with one person and before you are able to find love again? What do you do in the meantime after you've interviewed for one job and you area waiting to hear if you've been hired? What do you do in the meantime while you are waiting to heal after the passing of a loved one? There are many levels of the meantime. You could be waiting to find out the results of a test, or you could be waiting to find out the verdict of a court hearing. The truth of the matter is that no one really wants to be a part of the meantime...ever!
Why is the meantime so difficult? Part of the reason is because you never asked to be there. It can feel like you were just thrown there. You know the only way out of the meantime is through it. And you can only get through it with a little patience and perseverance. If it were up to us, we would have the answer we were awaiting, we would have the healing we've been seeking, and we would have (today) the understanding that only comes with time.
Girlfriends, there are three ways that I get through the meantime. First, I try my best to continue to enjoy life. There are great things happening all around me. All I have to do is be a part of it. All have to do is remember that there are so many things to be thankful for in my life. Second, I need to give to myself. I need to spend this time doing things that make me smile like taking care of myself, spoiling myself, and remembering myself. When we are "in the meantime" we often spend too much of our time thinking about that thing we are waiting on, but there's not enough thinking in the world that can expedite your process of having what you are waiting for. Finally, do more to help others. Helping others is the easiest way to keep your mind off of your current situation and what is causing you to be at a standstill in your life. Focus your efforts on helping other people and I can guarantee this time will go by quickly.
Girlfriends, I am very sorry if you are currently living in the meantime. But do not allow that to stop you for living, in general. Do not let that stop you from breathing and from taking in the beauty of the life that is all around you. Do not waste your time on things that are outside of you control. Focus your efforts and attention on everything you can control. Your time is worth that. Be Blessed, Girlfriends.
