Will & Jada Smith Create A Family Business Plan

May 18, 2010 - 1:00am - Jennifer Tardy
As I was perusing Oprah.com in search of more information pertaining to the interview with First Lady Laura Bush, I couldn’t help but to take a quick moment to peek at a video segment of an interview that Oprah conducted with Will and Jada Smith. I wasn’t going to watch it at first, but I couldn’t help myself! The title was The Smiths Talk about Their Marriage and Family Plan. I can honestly admit that I wasn’t as interested in this title (being that it was 10:30 p.m. and I was becoming rather sleepy) as I was in checking out the shoes that Jada was wearing during the couple’s interview. They were hot! But, I digress. I am glad that I clicked play.
So, as I watched the loving couple in action, I instantly noticed how both were speaking of their selves very spiritually. They would refer to their selves as Beings (two big Beings that came together) as opposed to people or humans. This concept really resonated with me in that I’ve been doing a ton of research on the notion of living within (i.e. living for your soul, feeding your spirit, utilizing the soul as a moral compass). As they were discussing their familial unit, there was such a sense of calm, self-awareness and consciousness that grew in their energy as they discussed their Marriage Business Plan. Who’s ever heard of this concept? I know that I haven’t. I mean, we all hear of business plans (in general), but how many of us takes this into our relationships? Will describes the concept of a marriage business plan by saying,
“What we’ve discovered  is that if you don’t have a goal (a purpose for your relationship) or pretty much anything—if you don’t have a place that you are going or something that you want accomplish or to do, you can really get lost in the murk of the journey. There has to be a vision!”
This was an absolutely amazing concept that I had to share with my blog readers! Will and Jada said that their vision is to create a place where their dreams and their extended families dreams can also come true as theirs did. And when you really look at what they have going on, with their children Jaden and Willow, for example, you can sincerely see that they are working hard toward that goal. This is a beautiful thing that makes you want to go running upstairs for that pencil and paper to get started with your family business plan, right.
I remember listening to Pastor T.D. Jakes give a sermon on having a vision. He stated (and I summarize) that when you have two people with separate visions you have di-vision. He went further to explain the notion that “di” means two. Division means two visions in its most simple connotation and denotation. Maybe this could be a significant reason for the divorce rate being so high. Perhaps, we could all learn a little from Will and Jada Smith. We are placing so much emphasis on what our goals are in all other aspects of our life, what about those areas that need it most? I’m sold.

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

Is my healthy relationship bible, by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It guides you through a spiritual way of living while helping you to understand what is needed within for a healthy relationship.

Will and Jada have always been an inspiration to me. I heard them speaking a few years ago about how they keep a healthy relationship alive. Something Will said has always stuck with me: "You have to change together." I think having a vision or business plan for your family only supports this statement.

Words I Live By

“I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

To do what I’m supposed to do…

And learn what I’m supposed to learn,

In order to be who I’m supposed to be…

And in the end…what God has for me,

Will be precisely what it’s supposed to be…

Just for me.”
