Products of our environment

September 9, 2009 - 1:50pm - Jennifer Tardy
We went to elementary, middle, and high school together. We took the same classes and sat at the same lunch table, we even ran on the same track team. We made the same mediocre grades and had crushes on the same immature boys. We all knew that while in grade school, we are a product of our environment; those things our families engrained in us, our teachers taught us, and our pastors showed us. In that regard, we were all very similar.

As a matter of fact… for as long as I can remember, we have been  products of our environment…but then something changed.

It changed all of us. One day, we all became adults; too old to continue to hide behind that excuse. At that moment, our environments became the products of the decisions we made.

I say that to say this, never be upset with the next person for doing what you haven’t done because you didn’t have the:

·         time,

·         energy,

·         focus,

·         patience,

·         discipline,

·         Etc. Etc Etc…

…to do what they’ve done. It’s not their fault.

In turn, understand that if the next person is upset for your success, it is only because you’ve made them recognize that they haven’t dedicated the:

·         time,

·         energy,

·         focus,

·         patience,

·         discipline,

·         Etc. Etc Etc…

…into doing what you’ve done. Just keep doing you!

For those negative people out there, just remember that the reason surrounding what you didn’t do, has nothing to do with the next person’s success. You, too, can change your environment by changing your decisions, and if you are this “toxic person,” you’ve also got to change your attitude. Wherever you are is not where you have to stay. Get focused. I know that I am.

Words I Live By

“I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

To do what I’m supposed to do…

And learn what I’m supposed to learn,

In order to be who I’m supposed to be…

And in the end…what God has for me,

Will be precisely what it’s supposed to be…

Just for me.”
